Rick Santorum's Challenge

Reminding nearly 1,100 people of the personal cost – their lives – our Founding Fathers put at stake in birthing a new nation, Senator Rick Santorum challenged The Family Foundation's Gala attendees to give sacrificially to protect their freedoms.  Bishop E.W. Jackson set a goal of raising $250,000 Saturday evening and I’m thankful to report that we are well on our way to that goal with a preliminary tally of gifts and pledges totaling $158,414!

To all who sponsored, purchased tickets or made a gift Saturday evening, thank you!  If you weren’t able to attend the Gala but would like to make a gift, you may still do so by clicking here.

We are also grateful for the dozens of pastors, legislators and candidates, including former Governor and U.S. Senate candidate George Allen, who joined us.

One legislator received special recognition for her leadership in passing one of The Family Foundation’s highest legislative priorities this year.  Demonstrating courage by standing up to some of the most hateful, visceral and disgusting personal attacks any legislator has faced in years, we honored Delegate Kathy Bryon (R-22, Lynchburg) as the 2012 Legislator of the Year.

Delegate Byron sponsored the ultrasound legislation, a law that updates Virginia’s informed consent law to offer mothers the opportunity to view an ultrasound of their child prior to having an abortion. According to Planned Parenthood, ultrasounds are standard medical practice prior to an abortion, an important fact the news media deliberately buried in all their coverage earlier this year.

In my speech, I challenged the audience about the passivity of pro-family Virginians during this year’s contentious General Assembly session.  The Family Foundation is committed to matching the passion and mobilization efforts of our opponents as we reinvigorate and revitalize our grassroots with the money raised Saturday evening!

Thank you to everyone who made the Gala a success.  We are always encouraged by the crowd and excited that so many Virginians support our work.  Together, we will make the Commonwealth strong again.
