I would like to invite you to come to Richmond for the Virginia Stands for Life Rally on Wednesday, January 8, the opening day of the 2014 General Assembly session. The Family Foundation is joining with over a dozen state and national pro-life groups to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. Next week, we will have a major announcement about the Rally speaker! In the past four years, the abortion rate in Virginia has declined by 16 percent. That decline has cost the abortion industry millions of dollars and is the motivation for Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups pouring millions of dollars into despicable and deceptive television ads and direct mail pieces to defeat candidates who stood for life and the unborn.
Friends, I know you are discouraged by the outcome of the election, but we cannot let that stop us from our efforts to protect the unborn. The media, the high paid consultants and the national leadership of the Republican Party think they have to abandon the pro-life plank to "appease" the left. The pro-life position has consistently gained support over the last 20 years and we need to be out there showing our elected officials that this is still our priority and we will continue to stay engaged on this most important issue. The pro-life message is a winning message when it is communicated properly and we must encourage our legislators to "stay the course" and let them know that to abandon the pro-life position is not an option.
Please mark your calendars and make it a priority to be in Richmond on January 8. We need a large gathering to show that those of us who value life from conception to natural death are still engaged and still passionate for our cause.
The gathering will take place at the Capitol Bell Tower at 10:00 a.m. We will be finished with everything by approximately 11:30, but we encourage you to stay and visit the House or Senate gallery to watch the session and stop by your legislators' offices and let them know you were here for Virginia Stands for Life Day. If you are able to be here early, we will lead a prayer walk at 9:00, starting at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, and culminating at the Bell Tower at 10:00.
Thank you for your past support and I look forward to seeing you in January. Best wishes for a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.
