We are excited about the coalition of pro-family groups working together to organize the Virginia Stands for Life Gathering in Richmond Wednesday, January 8, the opening day of the 2014 General Assembly session. We are especially thrilled to announce the addition of two groups: The Frederick Douglass Foundation and the National Black Prolife Coalition. Please plan to be in Richmond to make your voice heard that Virginians still believe that the sanctity of all life is valuable (see details).
The secular left stopped at nothing in 2013. It will be worse in 2014 unless we raise our voices.
Another reason we are excited is that our keynote speaker is, perhaps, the single most dynamic and influential pro-life leader in the country: Lila Rose, the digital media darling and founder of Live Action. Live Action has revolutionized investigating reporting and exposed Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry with undercover video reporting and exposés that forced the mainstream media to report on abortion center abuses (see CNN profile). Remarkably, she founded Live Action at age 15 and under her direction it has documented rampant sexual abuse cover-up, racism, medical misinformation, the willingness to assist sex traffickers, false statements made by Planned Parenthood executives, sex-selective abortion and infanticide.
Pro-life heroine Lila Rose, the 2014 Virginia Stands For Life Gathering keynote speaker.
This is a critical time in the cause for life in Virginia. The secular left, emboldened by its election victory in the fall, will ratchet up its shrill pro-abortion rhetoric at this year's General Assembly session in an attempt to marginalize pro-life legislation and legislators, belittle our movement and attract unwarranted media attention. But Virginia's elected officials and the public need to know that pro-life Virginians are not going away, and that we expect our legislators to continue to work to protect life as they go into this 2014 session.
Please plan now to be in Richmond for the Virginia Stands for Life Gathering on January 8. When you come to Richmond, you will not only be standing with The Family Foundation, but well more than a dozen state and national groups. More organizations are joining us every week, but here are the groups currently committed to this project:
Americans United for Life
Concerned Women for America of Virginia
The Family Foundation
Family Research Council
The Frederick Douglass Foundation
The National Black Prolife Coalition
Rachel's Vineyard Ministries
Silent No More
Susan B. Anthony List
Virginia Association of Independent Baptists
Virginia Catholic Conference
Virginia Christian Alliance
Virginia Society for Human Life
We are beginning the day with the 2nd Annual Prayer Walk at 9:00 a.m., starting at both the Richmond Convention Center (corner of 5th & Broad Streets) and at House Room 1 in the Capitol Building. The Virginia Stands for Life Gathering starts at the Bell Tower at 10:00.
