Obama's Compassion

Earlier this summer, President Barack Obama signed an Executive Order that prohibits faith-based non-profit organizations from receiving federal funds unless those non-profits “evolve” as the President has, completely change their “religious” views of human sexuality, and bow down to the new American Idol, homosexuality. Missing from the media discussion of the President’s edict was what these non-profit organizations actually do.

But an article in this week’s Washington Post gives us a glimpse into the work of just one of these faith-based non-profit organizations and what services it provides.  As you can see from these excerpts, it’s an organization that certainly deserves to be in the President’s crosshairs:

The Ebola outbreak has made it clear how much governments, especially those of poorer countries, rely on nonprofit groups to deliver medical care and supplies and sound an early alert on emerging health crises. That has brought attention to Samaritan’s Purse.

Samaritan’s Purse and SIM are “nongovernmental organizations,” or NGOs, operating internationally. In an informal partnership, Samaritan’s Purse helps staff hospitals run by SIM in Africa. Because of the Ebola outbreak, the two groups have evacuated dozens of “nonessential” personnel from Liberia. Still, Samaritan’s Purse has 350 staff members, mostly African nationals, remaining in Liberia, providing support at two clinics and working on public awareness campaigns.

A big chunk of the Samaritan’s Purse budget each year goes toward Operation Christmas Child, an effort that since 1993 has provided more than 100 million gift-filled shoe boxes to children in 112 countries. But much of the remaining budget goes toward medical missions and relief efforts in some of the poorest and most war-torn corners of the world, such as Africa, Asia and South America.

The organization, which is nondenominational, has rebuilt churches and provided humanitarian assistance to hundreds of thousands of people affected by the civil war in South Sudan. Its medical arm helped to staff dozens of hospitals in nearly 30 countries last year. The group has ramped up relief efforts in Iraq, sending food, shelter and clothing to thousands of families fleeing violent Islamic militants. The group also does work in the United States — for example, it helped provide housing in the wake of Hurricanes Sandy and Katrina.

Smart Money magazine has named Samaritan’s Purse the most efficient religious charity numerous times, and the group maintains a reputation of being among the first to combat the worst public health crises around the world.

Well, I mean, everyone knows that, compared to sounding the alert “on emerging health crisis,” and “medical missions and relief efforts in some of the poorest and most war-torn corners of the world, such as Africa, Asia and South America” and combating “the worst public health crises around the world” pales in comparison to ensuring that they accept the President’s views on homosexuality and same-sex marriage.

Let’s be honest, bleeding organizations like Samaritan’sPurse of federal funds simply because they won’t bow to his values is one of the most compassionless actions taken by an American president in a very long time.  His Executive Order has in reality put the lives of thousands upon thousands of people at risk across the globe and here at home.

There are dozens and dozens of organizations just like Samaritan’s Purse, many smaller and many as big or bigger that are doing incredible humanitarian work around the world.  And most will continue to do so, though to a lesser degree, without federal money.  But people will suffer as these organizations shrink their efforts in helping people as a result of the President’s obsession with sexuality.

So, the next time some liberal tells you that conservatives aren’t compassionate because they won’t support government healthcare or whatever pet government cause, remind them what the President has done to some of the poorest people in the world all for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered lobby.
