Liberal Outrage in Richmond

Liberals in Richmond expressed moral outrage this weekend, drumming up media attention, plastering social media, rallying and providing for anyone who would listen sufficient anger and disgust toward the object of their indignation. Oh, no, not that source of indignation.

Perhaps you thought I was talking about the sex scandal surrounding Democrat Delegate Joe Morrissey. After all, while much of the political class was posturing on Facebook about what to do with “Fightin’ Joe” after his plea to “contributing to the delinquency of a minor” put him behind bars, sort of, for a few weeks, you might have missed this atrocity. And certainly, the press releases from Democrats calling for Joe’s immediate resignation were flying fast and furious. That stalwart of protecting children from sex, Senator Dick Saslaw, said, “Virginians expect and deserve representatives whose conduct — especially towards children — is above reproach.”

Remember the next time Senator Saslaw claims that a 17-year-old should be able to get an abortion without parental involvement that, in this case, he referred to a 17-year-old girl as a “child.” But I digress.

No, unfortunately, that’s not the source of the moral outrage most loudly expressed by liberals in Richmond this weekend. There were no liberal rallies outside Joe’s offices demanding that he resign. No photo ops picked up by the Richmond Times-Dispatch where liberals were expressing outrage that a 57-year-old man was having sex with a 17-year-old girl.

No, that kind of moral outrage was reserved for a billboard.

Yes, a billboard.

Because, after all, opinions that fly in the face of what is acceptable to the secular elite are far more perilous to most liberals than the illegal actions of their political allies. You see, making the claim that people aren’t “born gay” is far, far more dangerous than a 57-year-old elected official allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old girl. Oh sure, Joe’s “indiscretion” is embarrassing to the party, but that billboard, now that’s an outrage!
