Eric Metaxas, Bob Marshall, Chris Freund: Speaking Engagements You Won't Want To Miss

There are some events taking place next weekend around the commonwealth featuring exceptional speakers on a variety of topics. I encourage you to take advantage of one or more of these great opportunities. On Saturday, November 20 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., former Family Foundation Gala keynote speaker Eric Metaxas will be in Richmond at the Richmond Center for Christian Study to discuss his new book, Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet and Spy (see Wall Street Journal review). Metaxas was on of our most popular gala speakers, mixing humor, a profound intellect and theological principle in his address. He is also the author of Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery. His presentation is at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 1101 Forest Avenue. For more information, click here.

Also on Saturday, Family Foundation Vice President for Policy and Communications Chris Freund will participate in a panel discussion on conservative principles at the annual Republican Party of Virginia Advance in Tyson's Corner. For more information click here.

On Sunday, November 21, from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. in the Virginia Commonwealth University Student Commons Theater, 907 Floyd Avenue,  Delegate Robert G. Marshall (R-13, Manassas), a patron of the 2006 Marriage Amendment to the Virginia Constitution that defines marriage as between one man and one woman, will defend the amendment against Sarah Warbelow, state legislative director at the Human Rights Campaign. The event, sponsored by the First Freedom Center, is free and open to the public. Parking is available at the parking deck at 801 West Main Street, across the street from the Commons.

Save The Date: The Family Foundation's 25th Anniversary Gala October 9!

Our Annual Gala this year will be a little more special than most years and we're excited about that. It will be extra special because it will be our 25th Anniversary Gala, and we're celebrating it on a Saturday evening instead of the typical weekday so more people can attend.

So, please save the date: October 9 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.

Befitting a silver anniversary event, we're planning activities throughout the day in addition to the dinner, which will make the Gala a fully rounded, lively and engaging celebration. It is certain to be a memorable event as we look back on a quarter century of defending our shared values and celebrate our many victories. We’ll also look ahead to the next 25 years as we advance our critical mission.

Okay, Okay . . . people hear that all the time and the word has been out for a bit, but people keep asking me who the keynote speaker is, or even if we have one lined up yet. The answer is, yes, we do a have a speaker and, just as with last year, when former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee inspired a crowd of more than 1,250 guests, the keynoter this year will encourage, motivate and energize you for the future. In fact, we have a pretty good track record of Gala speakers: William Bennett, Tony Snow, former Senators Rick Santorum and George Allen, Gary Bauer, David Barton, Rabbi Daniel Lapin, Steve Forbes, Maggie Gallagher, Eric Metaxas and former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline, among them.

This year's speaker — named one of the "Top 20 Most Influential Conservatives in America" and a frequent national television guest — is a national leader for conservative principles and is certain to bring a powerful, engaging and inspiring message that you won't want to miss. In fact, you will be disappointed if you do. So, please get your tickets now to see. . . .

Stay tuned for the big reveal in the weeks to come. We will have exciting announcements and updates delivered to you in exciting ways, so sign up for our e-mails, return to this blog, join us on FacebookTwitter and YouTube. Help us launch an exciting new era at The Family Foundation where we bring our traditional message to new audiences with modern techniques.

The dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m., preceded by a private reception for sponsors with the speaker. We hope you’ll reserve this date on your calendar.

Additional information on sponsorship packages, tickets and program advertisements will be provided this summer via email and online at www.familyfoundation.org/gala.htm. To receive the information by mail, please call us at (804) 343-0010 or e-mail Gala@FamilyFoundation.org.

Family Foundation Gala Set For November 20

The Family Foundation of Virginia's Annual Gala Celebration is only a few weeks away.  This year's Gala is on Thursday, November 20, at 7:00 p.m., at the Greater Richmond Convention Center's Grand Ballroom. It is black tie optional and a private reception for event sponsors begins at 6:00. We are especially excited about our keynote speaker, Phill Kline. Last year, attendees were amazed at the presentation of Eric Metaxas, author of Amazing Grace: William Wiberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery, the companion book to the critically acclaimed movie Amazing Grace. His talk about William Wilberforce set the stage for a real life Wilberforce at this year's event: Phill Kline.

For some hard core news junkies, Mr. Kline may be a familiar name, while most people probably are unfamiliar with him. But no one in American politics better represents our theme this year: "Principle Over Politics." Mr. Kline has faced dramatic political, personal and legal repercussions for his battles with Planned Parenthood, first as the attorney general of Kansas and now as a county prosecutor. He may be the foremost pro-life public official in America today and his commitment to expose Planned Parenthood's cover-up of illegal activities in Kansas truly is inspiring. Although it has cost him elections, Mr. Kline  has not compromised his principles. To preview his talk, we will post here in the near future an interview we are going to conduct with him. We also will post some video of and about him, starting with one at the end of this page.

Tickets for the Gala are $85 per person or $165 per couple. Sponsorship opportunities also are available. To reserve your tickets or to become a sponsor, click here for a printable order form. (For more information about the Gala and articles about Mr. Kline, click here.) Completed forms can be mailed to:

The Family Foundation of Virginia One Capitol Square 830 East Main Street Suite 1201 Richmond, Virginia 23219

For those travelling a long distance, we have secured a significantly discounted group rate at a nearby hotel that will be guaranteed through October 30. For more information concerning tickets, sponsorship opportunities or hotel reservations, please contact Dan Thompson at (804) 343-0010 or e-mail dan@familyfoundation.org with "Gala Information Request" in the subject line.

We look forward to seeing you in Richmond on November 20. In the meantime, to give you a preview of what to expect, please view the video interview below with Phill Kline by Laura Ingraham on the Fox News Channel:
