Herman Cain

If You Haven't Heard Who Our Gala Speaker Is Yet, It's . . .

 Rick Santorum!

Courage is not a word used often in modern American politics. In a nation where politicians are more driven by the protestors they see looking out the window of their offices or the latest poll numbers, few are more loyal to our founding principles than our 2012 Richmond Gala speaker, Rick Santorum. See our exciting announcement video, here.

A native of Pennsylvania, Rick Santorum is a former United States Senator and candidate for the 2012 Republican nomination for president, and has been a voice for principled conservatives whose voices have been largely ignored by establishment politicians. But he is perhaps most known for his devotion to his family — his wife of 22 years, Karen, and their children Elizabeth, John, Daniel, Sarah Maria, Peter, Patrick and Bella.

Guided by his faith in God and his belief that our nation can only survive by returning to the founding principles of the sanctity of life and marriage, constitutional government and the values of honesty and hard work, Rick Santorum was given little chance by the "experts" when he launched his campaign for president — only to shock the media and establishment politicians through his grassroots approach to campaigning and his unapologetic adherence to our shared values. We are thrilled that he will join us once again in Richmond, as he was our Gala speaker in 2003.

Speaking of Truth and Courage . . . former U.S. Senator and presidential candidate Rick Santorum will be the featured speaker at The Family Foundation's Annual Gala.

You won’t want to miss hearing Rick Santorum address the crowd at our annual Gala on Saturday evening, October 6, in Richmond. As with the last three years when former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, Congressman Mike Pence and business executive Herman Cain inspired crowds of more than 1,000 people, Rick's personal story will encourage, motivate and energize you for the future.

Already, there has been a positive media buzz as this piece on the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot blog attests. Join other like-minded people from around the commonwealth at this one-of-a-kind event that has become a "must attend" for conservative Virginians and a "who’s who" for politicians and elected officials.

Details including information on sponsorship packages, tickets and program advertisements will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead, but in the meantime, we hope you will reserve this date on your calendar. For additional information, visit our Gala page, here. To receive the information by mail or for questions, please call us at (804) 343-0010 or e-mail Gala@FamilyFoundation.org.

Herman Cain Rocks Richmond!

I hope you were among the 1,100+ people who packed the Greater Richmond Convention Center ballroom on Saturday night to hear from Herman Cain.* If not, you missed what many people are calling the "best Gala ever." Herman Cain, as expected, delivered a message that brought the crowd to its feet several times. Mr. Cain repeatedly referenced the 2011 Gala theme “Our Time Is Now” in calling the attendees to stay engaged in the process of choosing our nation’s leaders. Because the future of our country is at stake, he exhorted the crowd to stay informed, involved and inspired. Never one to shy from speaking his mind, he told the crowd that he was a mathematics major in college and, "never took a course in political correctness and I’m never going to!"

He also shared in depth on his personal journey, including how his faith got him through his bout with Stage IV colon cancer, adding a very personal element to his message that proved inspiring to all.

After an enjoyable time visiting with old friends and meeting new ones during dinner, the audience heard an inspiring report from Family Foundation President, Victoria Cobb, on the year's impressive legislative victories. She also reminded everyone of the importance of next month's elections, when Virginians have the chance to elect a conservative majority in the Virginia Senate and break the stranglehold on that body in which liberals have enjoyed for far too long.

After the event concluded guests had the opportunity to meet Mr. Cain and have him sign copies of his new book.

If you appreciate the work of The Family Foundation, and want to make a special gift in support of the Gala, you can do so by clicking here and choosing the option that says, “I am unable to attend, but would like to make a special gift. . . .” and then filling out the appropriate payment information.

Thank you for your support of the Gala and The Family Foundation as a whole. We hope you can join us for next year’s Gala . . . so you can see just what we do to top this one!

BREAKING NEWS: TFF Gala Speaker Herman Cain Expands Lead Over GOP Field And Leads Obama In New Zogby Poll!

A new IBOPE-Zogby poll (see Zogby.com) now shows Herman Cain, the keynote speaker at tomorrow night's Family Foundation Annual Gala, has expanded his lead in the Republican presidential nomination campaign, and now leads President Barack Obama 46-44 percent.

The poll question about the GOP nomination, asked only of Republican primary voters, yielded these results:

Herman Cain 38%

Mitt Romney 18%

Rick Perry 12%

Ron Paul 12%

Newt Gingrich 4%

Jon Huntsman, Jr. 4%

Michele Bachmann 3%

Rick Santorum 1%

The match-up question vs. President Obama was asked of all likely voters. The poll also showed the president's job approval rating at 41 percent and his "deserved to be re-elected" number at a paltry 38 percent.

But that wasn't the only news Herman Cain made today. He lit up the crowd at the Values Voter Summit earlier this afternoon in Washington and a tracking of Twitter comments adds anecdotal evidence to the traction and excitement he is generating among voters:

"Everyone is literally on the edge of their seats while listening to Cain. Too cool."

“Cain is bringing down the house!”

“Electric crowd for Herman Cain!”

“Wow! Herman Cain has excited the Values Voters Summit crowd the most today.”

“I'd pop 50 lbs of popcorn to watch Herman Cain debate Barack Obama!”

“Herman Cain is killing it!!!”

That is only some of the immediate reaction. (View the Values Voter Summit live or archived online by clicking here!) But you can see for yourself what the excitement is all about. Tickets are still available for tomorrow night's event. Come join more than 1,000 like-minded conservatives in good fun, fellowship and food, while meeting committed conservatives from all over Virginia. You really don't want to miss Herman Cain tomorrow night.

The Cain Train's Next Scheduled Stop: Richmond For TFF Annual Gala, Polls Show More Jumping On Board

Herman Cain is on the rise, surging in the polls and now is an "upper tier" candidate for the Republican presidential nomination. You can see why more and more people are jumping on board the "Cain Train" as it makes a stop in Richmond at The Family Foundation Annual Gala this Saturday, October 8. Tickets are still available: Click here now, as space is limited. Not only will you have a chance to hear Mr. Cain, you can also meet him and have him sign a copy of his soon-to-be-released book, This is Herman Cain: My Journey to the White House. The book will be available for purchase after the dinner and Mr. Cain will sign them for our guests. Autographed copies of the book are free for table sponsors and certain sponsorship levels also include the opportunity to have your picture taken with Mr. Cain. For more information, click here.

Mr. Cain* is coming to Richmond to share his remarkable story that includes rising to the top of the business world, his tenure as a pastor and stage IV cancer survival, and encourage our attendees — not as part of his presidential campaign. Nevertheless, attendees will hear from the man whose national reputation has taken off in the last few days in a furious media buzz

On the heels of his landslide victory in the Florida Republican presidential straw poll, a recent Fox News poll showed Cain had tripled his support among GOP primary voters. Now he is running practically even with former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and Texas Governor Rick Perry as the top tier of contenders. Another poll indicates he's surpassed both Romney and Perry and stands alone as the front-runner.

Here are some of quotes from recent articles on Mr. Cain:

» Herman Cain may or may not win the nomination, but right now he is the center of gravity within the Republican field and all the other candidates are, after last week, being pulled into his orbit. (See RedState.com.)

» Unlike the incumbent, Herman Cain has at least twice identified the causes of a large failing enterprise, designed goals, achieved them, and by all accounts inspired the people he was supposed to lead. Not least, Mr. Cain's life experience suggests that, unlike the incumbent, he will adjust his ideas to reality. (See The Wall Street Journal/WSJ.com.)

» After a well-received debate performance last week, Herman Cain surprised everybody by finishing atop the Florida straw poll. This week, he's finally seeing traction in the polls, and now serious people are starting to take him seriously. It's far past time for us to take a closer look at Cain, who appears to be making a credible bid for top-tier status. (See TheWeeklyStandard.com.)

» This guy's the one who makes sense to me. He's a sweet man. He's not self-aggrandizing. (Talk-show host Dennis Miller, reported on Politico.com.)

Getting To Know Herman Cain

The Family Foundation Annual Gala will take place October 8 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, featuring keynote speaker Herman Cain, the former CEO of Godfather's Pizza, head of the National Restaurant Association, chairman of the Kansas City Federal Reserve, business commentator, pastor, radio talk show host and, most importantly, a stage IV cancer survivor. Oh, yeah, he won the Florida GOP Presidential Straw Poll and is the leading candidate in the Republican presidential nomination, as of today, in the new Zogby Poll.* Herman Cain is an accomplished man, a great speaker, and grounded in faith, family and country, and in upholding the principles of the U.S. Constitution. He is worth hearing and we hope you will consider joining us for our major annual fundraising event and see why there is such a national buzz over Herman Cain. To get to know Mr. Cain a bit better, please view this video of an appearance he made with former Arkansas governor, Fox News host, and 2010 Family Foundation Gala keynote speaker Mike Huckabee earlier this year on his Fox News Channel show, Huckabee.

Herman Cain teaches Bill O'Reilly a thing or two about economics.

Why Did Herman Cain Win Florida’s GOP Presidential Straw Poll Vote?

Why did Herman Cain win the Florida Republican presidential straw poll vote? Come see for yourself in 12 days, when Herman Cain offers the keynote address at The Family Foundation Annual Gala, Saturday, October 8. In case you missed it over the weekend, coming off Thursday night's Florida GOP presidential candidate debate, Mr. Cain received 37 of the vote in the Republican straw poll, followed by Texas Governor Rick Perry (15 percent), former Governor Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (14 percent), former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (11 percent) and U.S. Representative Ron Paul (10 percent). All other candidates trailed in single digits. What makes this poll so telling is that the voters were delegates to a convention, and not activists who could be bussed in, fed for a couple of hours in a fun, tailgate atmosphere, and have their admission tickets paid for by a candidate — as was the case in the Iowa straw poll in August.

But it's not only Florida. Mr. Cain has been turning heads around the country for years, as a successful corporate CEO and a television and radio political and business news commentator — as well as a pastor and one with a compelling stage IV cancer survivor. So don't miss your opportunity to see what the buzz is all about. Although this is a non-political event, it's an opportunity to get to know Herman Cain* as an individual, and not as a candidate. Space is limited, so click here to purchase tickets to the gala. Better yet, not only can you hear him speak, you can have your picture taken with Herman Cain by signing up for a table sponsorship. Click here for details on this special opportunity.

Here is what people were saying about Mr. Cain this weekend:

» At a faith rally before the debate and a conservative forum after, Cain earned the loudest applause. By Friday night, he was so popular that his staff had to find a bigger room to accommodate admirers. But even then, in a room with a capacity of 700, a long line snaked out the door. (The Miami Herald)

» Cain was “not full of himself. He’s honest, he’s got a sense of humor, he’s got a plan.” (Politico.com)

» Cain, who charmed activists with a series of red meat speeches and a smooth debate performance, was mentioned frequently as a second choice among activists who came to Orlando ready to support Perry before changing their minds. (CNN.com blog)

Herman Cain is the American story. The son of a chauffeur and house cleaner, through hard work and perseverance, Mr. Cain rose to the highest levels of corporate management and is now a prominent, well-respected conservative leader and commentator. After earning a Master's degree from Purdue University, he served in the U.S. Navy, shared the pastorate of a Baptist church, beat stage IV cancer and finished second in a three-way bid for a U.S. Senate seat. His life as the celebrated CEO of Godfather's Pizza and corporate turnaround expert, chairman of the Kansas City Federal Reserve, president of the National Restaurant Association, and popular radio talk show host has provided Herman Cain an unparalleled national platform (see John Stossel at FoxNews.com). His love for our country, respect for the principles it was founded on and zeal for seeing a return to that foundation make him an important ally.

He's also a passionate and spirited orator whom you won't want to miss. Here's a sample of what to expect from Herman Cain. It's a brief speech at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition last winter:

"Our Founding Fathers did their job. We must be the defending fathers. We must defend the life of the unborn."

Our Gala Speaker On October 8th Is . . .

Herman Cain!

Pastor, radio host, business mastermind, CEO, non-politician, and a champion for pro-life, pro-family policies, Herman Cain is a rising star within the conservative movement and a favorite amongst the Tea Party. While likely best known for his role as former chairman and CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, Mr. Cain also is remembered as the one who articulately challenged former President Bill Clinton on the negative effects of HillaryCare on small businesses during a widely publicized nationally televised town hall forum in 1994.

Not one to mince words, Mr. Cain recently spoke at The Heritage Foundation (see Heritage.org) and blasted Planned Parenthood. Referring to Planned Parenthood's founding purpose of killing black babies, Mr. Cain said, "It's not Planned Parenthood. No, it's planned genocide. You can quote me on that." (See Talking Points Memo.) He supports fully defunding Planned Parenthood.

A real life rags-to-riches story, he is the son of a chauffeur and a cleaner who has not always had life easy. However, he has accomplished much in his 66 years: a Masters degree from Purdue University, service in the U.S. Navy, associate pastor at a Baptist church, beating stage IV cancer, several executive positions at major corporations, president of the National Restaurant Association, chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and senior advisor for the 1996 Dole-Kemp presidential campaign to name only a few of his significant accomplishments. A Georgia native, he is married to his wife, Gloria, and his a father and grandfather.

You won't want to miss hearing Herman Cain address the annual Family Foundation Galaon Saturday evening, October 8, in Richmond (see today's Richmond Times-Dispatch). As with the last two years when former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and Congressman Mike Pence inspired crowds of 1,000, Herman Cain's personal story will encourage, motivate and energize you for the future. Join other like-minded folks at this one-of-a-kind event that has become a "must attend" for conservative Virginians and a "who’s who" for politicians and elected officials.

The Gala will again be held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. Details, including information on sponsorship packages, tickets and program advertisements, will be forthcoming in the coming weeks. But in the meantime, we hope you'll reserve this date on your calendar.

Additional information also will be provided via e-mail and online at our Gala page (click here). To receive the information by mail, please call us at (804) 343-0010 or e-mail Gala@FamilyFoundation.org.

Watch Breitbart, Bachmann, Cain, Pawlenty, Conservative Stars Live Online Starting Tomorrow At RightOnline!

The rapid change in the shape of the media is one of the exciting aspects of politics and policy today. No longer must conservative candidates, office holders, public policy organizations, think tanks, interest groups and issues advocates rely on traditional media to report on them and their message. Not that the mainstream media would cover conservative campaigns, officials and organizations fairly anyway. On the other hand, conservatives for years were overrun by the Left in effectively utilizing the Internet. Neither new or old media, one by choice and one by default, was kind to conservatives. Much of that is changing. Conservatives are getting better and better at using new, digital means of communicating and shaping stories, issues and campaigns, and in reaching voters directly. They have equalized the game. One of the reasons for that is the annual RightOnline Conference sponsored by our friends at Americans for Prosperity. Every year it brings together conservative bloggers, online commentators, social media junkies and the like, to learn more about the new media and technology, network with each other and make news themselves. The next RightOnline Conference is this weekend in Minneapolis and while not everyone can go (1,300 are expected), everyone can watch and participate.

Among those who will address attendees are conservative author and new media magnate Andrew Breitbart (making his first national speech since he broke the Anthony Weiner scandal) and presidential candidates Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, and Tim Pawlenty. You can see them and many other prominent conservative leaders by logging on to RightOnline.com starting at 10:30 Friday morning. (Click here to see live video stream schedule.)

But not only will you get to see and hear a number of the new wave of conservative leaders speak to important issues, broach new ideas and advance conservative principles, RightOnline.com will provide the opportunity to talk with fellow activists through its interactive chat feature. It all kicks off at 2:00 p.m. Friday, with featured speakers Congressman John Kline, Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, and Ann McElhinney. We hope you take some time to log-on and experience the new media. There's nothing mainstream about it.
