Mike Pence

If You Haven't Heard Who Our Gala Speaker Is Yet, It's . . .

 Rick Santorum!

Courage is not a word used often in modern American politics. In a nation where politicians are more driven by the protestors they see looking out the window of their offices or the latest poll numbers, few are more loyal to our founding principles than our 2012 Richmond Gala speaker, Rick Santorum. See our exciting announcement video, here.

A native of Pennsylvania, Rick Santorum is a former United States Senator and candidate for the 2012 Republican nomination for president, and has been a voice for principled conservatives whose voices have been largely ignored by establishment politicians. But he is perhaps most known for his devotion to his family — his wife of 22 years, Karen, and their children Elizabeth, John, Daniel, Sarah Maria, Peter, Patrick and Bella.

Guided by his faith in God and his belief that our nation can only survive by returning to the founding principles of the sanctity of life and marriage, constitutional government and the values of honesty and hard work, Rick Santorum was given little chance by the "experts" when he launched his campaign for president — only to shock the media and establishment politicians through his grassroots approach to campaigning and his unapologetic adherence to our shared values. We are thrilled that he will join us once again in Richmond, as he was our Gala speaker in 2003.

Speaking of Truth and Courage . . . former U.S. Senator and presidential candidate Rick Santorum will be the featured speaker at The Family Foundation's Annual Gala.

You won’t want to miss hearing Rick Santorum address the crowd at our annual Gala on Saturday evening, October 6, in Richmond. As with the last three years when former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, Congressman Mike Pence and business executive Herman Cain inspired crowds of more than 1,000 people, Rick's personal story will encourage, motivate and energize you for the future.

Already, there has been a positive media buzz as this piece on the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot blog attests. Join other like-minded people from around the commonwealth at this one-of-a-kind event that has become a "must attend" for conservative Virginians and a "who’s who" for politicians and elected officials.

Details including information on sponsorship packages, tickets and program advertisements will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead, but in the meantime, we hope you will reserve this date on your calendar. For additional information, visit our Gala page, here. To receive the information by mail or for questions, please call us at (804) 343-0010 or e-mail Gala@FamilyFoundation.org.

Our Gala Speaker On October 8th Is . . .

Herman Cain!

Pastor, radio host, business mastermind, CEO, non-politician, and a champion for pro-life, pro-family policies, Herman Cain is a rising star within the conservative movement and a favorite amongst the Tea Party. While likely best known for his role as former chairman and CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, Mr. Cain also is remembered as the one who articulately challenged former President Bill Clinton on the negative effects of HillaryCare on small businesses during a widely publicized nationally televised town hall forum in 1994.

Not one to mince words, Mr. Cain recently spoke at The Heritage Foundation (see Heritage.org) and blasted Planned Parenthood. Referring to Planned Parenthood's founding purpose of killing black babies, Mr. Cain said, "It's not Planned Parenthood. No, it's planned genocide. You can quote me on that." (See Talking Points Memo.) He supports fully defunding Planned Parenthood.

A real life rags-to-riches story, he is the son of a chauffeur and a cleaner who has not always had life easy. However, he has accomplished much in his 66 years: a Masters degree from Purdue University, service in the U.S. Navy, associate pastor at a Baptist church, beating stage IV cancer, several executive positions at major corporations, president of the National Restaurant Association, chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and senior advisor for the 1996 Dole-Kemp presidential campaign to name only a few of his significant accomplishments. A Georgia native, he is married to his wife, Gloria, and his a father and grandfather.

You won't want to miss hearing Herman Cain address the annual Family Foundation Galaon Saturday evening, October 8, in Richmond (see today's Richmond Times-Dispatch). As with the last two years when former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and Congressman Mike Pence inspired crowds of 1,000, Herman Cain's personal story will encourage, motivate and energize you for the future. Join other like-minded folks at this one-of-a-kind event that has become a "must attend" for conservative Virginians and a "who’s who" for politicians and elected officials.

The Gala will again be held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. Details, including information on sponsorship packages, tickets and program advertisements, will be forthcoming in the coming weeks. But in the meantime, we hope you'll reserve this date on your calendar.

Additional information also will be provided via e-mail and online at our Gala page (click here). To receive the information by mail, please call us at (804) 343-0010 or e-mail Gala@FamilyFoundation.org.

If You Can't Get To D.C. Monday, Attend The November Speaks! Virtual Rally Online

Another annoucement regarding the November Speaks! rally on November 15 on Capitol Hill in Washington: Americans For Prosperity launched a new Web site for the event which includes a page where you can participate in a virtual rally if you can't make it to the nation's capital (click here). The rally is designed to raise awareness of, and put pressure on, the lame duck Congress to stand down from any grandiose schemes for still larger government, higher taxes, debilitating regulations and crushing debt, all of which amounts to more control from Washington and less freedom everywhere else. Ignoring the recent election results, Nancy Pelosi yesterday brazenly threw a celebratory party to laud her "accomplishments." But she's not done yet. Starting Monday, she is reconvening Congress, while she still wields the Speaker's gavel, for one last attempt to ram through the big-government takeovers that remain on her leftist agenda. It's already being referred to as the "Zombie Congress" since so many members are the walking politically dead. Rejected overwhelmingly by the voters, they should not trample on the will of the people and leave quietly, having done enough damage.

Among the speakers at November Speaks! are U.S. Representatives Michele Bachman (R-Minn.) (see Paul Bedard's U.S. News Washington Whispers blog), Mike Pence (R-Ind.) (see the Wall Street Journal's Washington Wire blog) and newly elected Morgan Griffith (R-Va.) (see the Washington Post's Virginia Politics blog), as well as AFP President Tim Phillips. Other partners in staging November Speaks! are 60 Plus, Let Freedom Ring, Institute For Liberty, Tea Party D.C. and Smart Girl Politics. For more information about attending in person, click here.

Update: Representative-Elect Griffith, Mike Pence To Address November Speaks Rally

Representative-Elect Morgan Griffith (Roanoke Times) will make his Washington debut at the November Speaks rally on Capitol Hill on November 15 (click here for more information). Representative Mike Pence (R-Ind.), The Family Foundation Gala keynote speaker and a potential presidential candidate, also has committed to speak at the event. They will join previously announced Representative Michele Bachman and Americans For Prosperity President Tim Phillips. The event will call the public's attention to the lame duck Congress' attempts to sneak unpopular legislation through, now that many of them have been retired by the voters, as well as send a warning signal to the new Congress to live up to its promises.

Breaking News: Fox News Channel To Cover Family Foundation's 25th Anniversary Gala!

Two days remain to buy tickets to see Congressman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) deliver the keynote speech at The Family Foundation's 25th Anniversary Gala, this Saturday, October 9, at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. Winner of the recent 2012 presidential straw poll at the Family Research Council's Values Voter Summit (see video for a preview of what to expect Saturday), Congressman Pence has been turning heads as a rising star in the conservative movement. So much so, in fact, we just learned that Fox News Channel intends to cover the gala! Last weekend, Congressman Pence, the third ranking member of the House Republican Conference, traveled to Iowa — not by accident, he joked — where he spoke to the Faith and Freedom Coalition dinner (Iowa Independent). A hero among social and fiscal conservatives, Congressman Pence's remarks were enthusiastically received (see Kathie Obradovich at The DesMoines Register's Iowa Politcs Blog). In short, he is rising to the top of the 2012 GOP presidential field.

This quote from that speech is an example of why he is held in such high regard by social conservatives (see Caffeinated Thoughts and its podcast):

To those who say we should focus on fiscal issues, instead of the right to life, I say, "What is more fiscally responsible than denying any and all funding to Planned Parenthood of America?" To those who say that marriage doesn’t matter, I say, "You would not be able to print enough money in 1,000 years to pay for the government you would need if the traditional family continues to collapse."

In addition to registering online, you can purchase tickets by phone through Friday at (804) 343-0010 by Friday. The dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. and is preceded by a private sponsors' reception and picture opportunity with Congressman Pence at 5:15 p.m.

Here's one more sample of what you'll get with Mike Pence:

A Lot In Seven Minutes: Victoria Cobb On WAUQ/AFR Radio

As we mentioned earlier this week, it's a Cobb's web and we just live in it. Family Foundation President Victoria Cobb appeared on the Jimmy G show on WAUQ-FM, American Family Radio in Richmond, and spoke about our 25th Anniversary Gala on October 9 (order tickets here or call 804-343-0010), featuring Congressman Mike Pence (R-Ind.). But the 7-minute interview also is a good brief on what we do and why we do it. Plus, a little presidential politics and Wayburn Dean music is discussed as well. In short, it's a good take and we hope you take the time to listen to it (even if she failed to mention this blog). Click the photo to hear the interview:

Gala Update: Grammy And Dove Award Nominee Wayburn Dean To Perform!

The Family Foundation's 25th Anniversary Gala is Saturday, October 9, and the date is rapidly approaching. We hope you have your tickets or are at least planning on ordering them very soon. As this update details, it's becoming one of the hottest tickets this political season. Click here or call 804-343-0010 or e-mail to Gala@familyfoundation.org to place 0rders for single tickets, couples tickets, VIP reception and/or sponsorships. But please don't wait — we have more than 1,000 confirmed guests and space is filling up fast as we approach last year's record attendance. Congressman Mike Pence, winner of the recent 2012 Values Voter Summit presidential straw poll, held by Family Research Council Action, is the keynote speaker. One leading conservative credits Pence for single-handedly insisting that the Congressional Republicans' new "Pledge to America" included life, marriage and family issues.

The deadline to reserve a room at the Hilton Garden Inn Richmond Downtown (501 East Broad Street) at a reduced rate also is approaching quickly. The Family Foundation room block will be held until Thursday, September 30. If you or your guests are planning to stay overnight, please call 1-877-782-9444 to make your reservation today and mention "The Family Foundation Gala" or click here.

Congressman Pence won't be our only special guest: Wayburn Dean, a member of the Gospel quartet Acappella during its rise to prominence, where he received both Grammy and Dove Award nominations, and who now performs as a solo artist, will perform "America the Beautiful" and two of his hit singles. His song "What Will Be Your Legacy?" (which he will peform for us) was selected as the Number 5 inspirational single for 2009 by Christian Music Weekly.

Gala Speaker Mike Pence Wins Presidential Straw Poll At Values Voter Summit!

We've been making the case that our 25th Anniversary Gala speaker, Congressman Mike Pence (R-Ind.), is one of the leading conservatives in America. Well respected by his colleagues and those in the conservative media, his star is shining brightly among the grassroots now, too, as Saturday he won the closely watched Values Voter Summit Presidential Straw Poll with 24 percent of the vote over 17 potential candidates (see Politico.com). The 2,000 summit attendees voted (see Outside The Beltway's Doug Mataconis) last year's gala speaker, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, second. The others who received votes in the straw poll, in alphabetical order, were Haley Barbour, Jan Brewer, Chris Christie, Mitch Daniels, Jim DeMint, Newt Gingrich, Bobby Jindal, Bob McDonnell, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Marco Rubio, Paul Ryan, Sarah Palin, Rick Santorum and John Thune.

This year's gala not only will be a chance to hear one of the leaders and intellectual forces behind the conservative movement, but also to share in the celebration of 25 years of fighting the good fight for traditional and family values. Already, more than 900 people have bought tickets to the event (nearing last year's record), and you will want to see for yourself why Congressman Pence is so respected by thousands of conservative grassroots leaders and activists from around the nation.

This very special Family Foundation event, one that will be remembered long after it is over, is Saturday, October 9, at the Greater Richmond Convention Center at 6:30 (5:15 sponsors reception with Congressman Pence). To order your tickets or for sponsorship information, get complete details here, e-mail us at Gala@FamilyFoundation.org, or call The Family Foundation at (804) 343-0010.

See the speech that drove Values Voter Summit attendees to vote Mike Pence its 2012 presidential favorite:

Pence, commonsense and common values: "Those who would have us ignore the battle being fought over life, marriage and religious liberty, have forgotten the lessons of history. As in the days of a house divided, America's darkest moments have come when economic arguments trumped moral principles."

Gala Update: Ticket Sales On Pace To Equal 2009 Record!

The Family Foundation's Annual Gala is one of Virginia's premiere political events and an opportunity to get your message in front of the commonwealth's most dedicated pro-family, traditional-values conservatives. Last year's gala, featuring keynote speaker Mike Huckabee, was our most successful ever and nearly doubled the previous attendance record. This year's special 25th Anniversary Celebration Gala, with keynote speaker Congressman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) is no different. We already are on our way to matching last year’s attendance with five weeks to go and invitations just arriving in mailboxes. Whoever said the conservative movement was dead after 2006 and 2008 (and there were many) might want to rethink their prognostications. As part of the the 25th Anniversary Celebration Gala, we will produce a special program for the evening. The program is an excellent opportunity for pro-family small business owners, family-friendly organizations or elected officials and candidates to promote their enterprises to like-minded conservatives, while also supporting the work of The Family Foundation. To learn more, click here and download the order form using the link at the bottom of the page. The deadline for submitting ads is Friday, September 17. For more information, contact John Downer at 804-343-0010 or john@familyfoundation.org. Opportunities to sponsor or purchase tickets for this special 25th Anniversary Gala are still available as well.

Thank you for your support of The Family Foundation. We hope you'll consider advertising in the program and joining us on Saturday, October 9.

Family Foundation Chaplain Bishop E.W. Jackson, Sr., To Speak At Virginia Tea Party Convention

The Virginia Tea Party yesterday announced (Richmond Tea Party Blog) that Bishop E.W. Jackson, Sr., the chaplain for The Family Foundation, head of our Pastors for Family Values arm, and the founder of Chesapeake-based Exodus Faith Ministries International and STAND (Staying True to America's National Destiny), will be one of the keynote speakers at its first-ever statewide convention this October 8-9 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center (Richmond Times-Dispatch). It will be a busy weekend for Bishop Jackson, already an in-demand speaker, who also will feature at our 25th Anniversary Gala the evening of the 9th at the GRCC, at which Congressman (and potential presidential candidate) Mike Pence of Indiana will keynote (click for more information). It won't be the first Tea Party address by Bishop Jackson — whose resume could run the length of Virginia Beach's Atlantic Boulevard — a Harvard educated attorney, broadcaster, writer and a Tea Party regular, who brought down the house at the Hampton Roads Tea Party on April 15 and at a recent Tuesday Morning Group Coalition meeting. He's also becoming quite the national figure (see Fox News Channel interview with Megyn Kelly and with CNN's Roland Martin). Bishop Jackson also is the author of the best selling Ten Commandments To An Extraordinary Life: Making Your Dreams Come True.

We congratulate Bishop Jackson on his rising prominence in the commonwealth and country. We look forward to his continued leadership at The Family Foundation and in the cause of restoring traditional values. For a taste of what you can expect, here's a video of Bishop Jackson speaking to a PFFV event in Norfolk earlier this year.

Mike Pence Update

U.S. Representative Mike Pence (R-Ind.), the keynote speaker at our 25th Anniversary Celebration Gala October 9, spoke Friday to the RightOnLine convention, the conservative counter punch to the leftist "NetRoots" online activists. Both conventions were held in Las Vegas over the weekend. Take the time to hear why he is considered one of the leading and most principled conservatives in America today, and a potential presidential candidate. Here is Representative Pence's speech:

U.S. Representative Mike Pence (R-Indiana), our 25th Anniversary Gala keynote speaker, will debate the House Majority Whip, James Clyburn (D-S.C.) on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace Sunday morning (check local listings). The show is repeated at 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. on Fox News Channel. If you are not familiar with Rep. Pence, here is a great opportunity. Who Could Follow Mike Huckabee?

How about Mike Pence! In case you missed yesterday's big announcement, we ended months of speculation as to who the mystery keynote speaker is for The Family Foundation's 25th Anniversary Celebration Gala. I am absolutely thrilled to announce that it will be Congressman Mike Pence!

Congressman Pence describes himself as "a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order!" An outspoken advocate for the values we share, he has been named one of the 20 most influential conservatives in America and has repeatedly received the "True Blue Award" from the Family Research Council for his commitment to the family and sanctity of human life. An April 2006 profile in U.S. News and World Report said Pence "has emerged as a powerful force" in Congress. If you have not heard Congressman Pence speak you are in for a real treat!

We plan to make the 25th Anniversary Celebration a night to remember. For a quarter decade, The Family Foundation has been on the front lines of policy decisions in Richmond and we have much to celebrate! From parental consent to abortion to the Marriage Amendment to defunding elective abortion, our victories list is long. I hope you will join us to celebrate the legacy of Walt Barbee, Anne Kincaid and others.

The gala is Saturday, October 9, at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. Dinner is at 6:30 p.m. with a private sponsors' reception and photo line beginning at 5:15. Details for the evening are being finalized, but if you would like to be sure you receive an invitation, please e-mail your name, address and phone number to us at gala@familyfoundation.org. We also expect to announce other special activities surrounding this once-in-a-lifetime event that will make the gala a can't miss event. For more information, visit our Gala Web page or call 804-343-0010.

The invitation will include details of the sponsorship benefits including the private reception, and photo line. A discounted hotel group rate is being negotiated for people desiring to spend the night in Richmond. So please mark your calendar today and plan to be in Richmond the evening of Saturday, October 9, to hear Congressman Mike Pence at The Family Foundation's 25th Anniversary Celebration Gala!

Another Webcast On ObamaCare

We alerted you yesterday to an informative Americans For Prosperity tele-town hall about Washington's attempt to take control of the nation's health care. It's important to stay informed on this critical issue as the time approaches on a historic Congressional vote that could transform one-sixth of the U.S. economy into a European, government-run model. In case you could not catch last night's event, the Family Research Council is offering an opportunity to participate in another one, on Tuesday, March 16, at 8:30 p.m. Eastern. This Webcast town hall also will feature U.S. Representative Mike Pence (R-Ind.), the featured speaker at the AFP tele-town hall last night. Congressman Pence is the third highest ranking member of the Republican House caucus and one of the country's most principled free-market leaders.

Among the confirmed participants are:

» Tony Perkins, President, FRC Action

» U.S. Representative Tom Price, M.D. (R-Ga.)

» Bryan Fischer, Director of Issue Analysis, American Family Association

» Kristan Hawkins, Executive Director, Students for Life

» Marjorie Dannenfelser, President, Susan B. Anthony List

» Douglas Johnson, Legislative Director, National Right to Life

» Tom McClusky, Senior Vice President, FRC Action

Discussion points will include what we can do to stop this horrendous bill from getting passed (see Speaker Nancy Pelosi's admission, here) as well as an overviews of what's in the bill, when the vote might take place, and alternative solutions. To register for this free event, which will take viewer questions, click here.
