Stop Hating, Start Debating Part II

Yesterday, we commented on the far left Southern Poverty Law Center's aspersions on more than 150 organizations that stand for traditional marriage. Today, we share some thoughts on the subject of Family Research Council President Tony Perkins. In a letter to supporters, he wrote:

The surest sign one is losing a debate is to resort to character assassination. The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a liberal fundraising machine whose tactics have been condemned by observers across the political spectrum, is doing just that.

The group, once known for combating racial bigotry, is now attacking several groups that uphold Judeo-Christian moral views, including marriage as the union of a man and a woman.

How does the SPLC attack? By labeling its opponents "hate groups." No discussion. No consideration of the issues. No engagement. No debate!

These types of slanderous tactics are not limited to a handful of Christian groups. They have been used against voters who signed petitions and voted for marriage amendments in all thirty states that have considered them, as well as against the millions of Americans who identify with the Tea Party movement.

This is intolerance pure and simple. Elements of the radical Left are trying to shut down informed discussion of policy issues that are being considered by Congress, legislatures, and the courts. The SPLC has even admitted that their goal is to censor our views in the media.

We need you to stand with us. Please visit StartDebatingStopHating.com, and join with other national leaders and me in telling the radical Left it is time to stop spreading hate-charged rhetoric about individuals and organizations simply because they disagree with our ideas. Our debates can and must remain civil — but they must never be suppressed.

Remember, if they can silence pro-family organizations, they will attempt to use pressure and the power of government to target pastors and citizens like you who publicly stand for traditional principles.

This is the standard operating procedure for the Angry Left. Having nothing to offer but government control over people's lives, it demonizes anyone and any group of people who stand for traditional values, because those values are grounded in liberty and freedom which is antithetical to its aims. It's too much to ask, but if those in the Mainstream Media, who pontificate about the coarseness of our politics, didn't legitimize attack machines such as the SPLC, the political discourse in this country would improve the next day.

What is sad about the partnership of radical leftists and the MSM is that what they accuse values voters of cheapens the charge against those who actually engage in those behaviors. It's crying wolf. The fact that this partnership cares not about that reveals its sincerity in exposing true hate and harm at the expense of advancing their radical agenda.

Victimization Politics

Just curious about something: Why is it when something from way back in a conservative candidate's past comes to light, or even something more recent that was taken out of context, or even something he or she has apologized for, the angry left and the mainstream media hound on him or her about it forever, no matter how irrelevant it is to the office the candidate seeks, and portrays the conservative as the most despicable human alive? But when even the slightest embarrassing revelation comes to light about a liberal candidate . . . the conservative opponent still is the meanest, most despicable human alive because, of course, he or she must have had something to do with it. Not to mention the fact that the media and left wing lionize the liberal candiate into an aggrieved, victimized hero.

The "Liberal Street" Is Really Angry Now . . . But At Obama!

It hasn't been such a happy post-election season for the Angry Left and militant homosexual activists, despite the election of their "messiah." Perhaps he's human after all. First, militant homosexual activists took to the streets immediately (see here) — as in the next day — after Californians voted to pass Proposition 8, to constitutionally guarantee traditional marriage. They never stopped, trying to disrupt Morman church services (see here); ignorant celebrities leading protests (see here, foul language warning, but hilarious); chasing, posse style, Prop 8 supporters in the streets (see here/foul language warning); and even ranting in Virginia (read here).

It's all been the height of intolerance, viciously so in many cases, in sharp contrast both to what the Angry Left claims to be and in what it claims conservatives are.

Now it is livid at President-Elect Barack Obama's cabinet choices (see Emily Friedman of ABC News) and national security team, which includes a retired Marine general who supported President Bush, current Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Hillary Clinton (who voted for the Iraq war) and U.S. Representative Ray Lahood (R-Ill.) as Transportation Secretary.

Didn't he run to pull out of Iraq? If that isn't enough, apparently the president-elect is turning his innaugaration into a right-wing Christian convention because he's invited Rev. Rick Warren to offer a prayer. Rev. Warren, a Californian, supported Prop 8. The Human Rights Campaign president rips the POTUS-elect in a Washington Post op-ed (see here).

Here's what the militant homosexuals did outside his Saddlesback Church after the election (could this be a scene at the Obama innaugaration?):

You think they were angry then? It must be a dust-up of epic proportions in the nut-root community now. Obama must be nothing less than a sell-out. But when you act like sheep in a crowd, that's what you get. Remember this telling essay from by Fouad Ajami in October?

"Obama and the Politics of Crowds"

They're not getting what they want, what they were promised, what was expected, so they take to the streets, just as Ajami points out Arabs do (i.e., "The Arab Street"). Do we in America now have "The Liberal Street"? Politics by protest? Can't get what you want at the ballot box, so demonstrate in the streets until you do?

It's a liberal crack-up, for sure, but how long will it last? More importantly, will it spill over into, and degrade, the culture at large?

Last Call For The Family Foundation Annual Gala

The Family Foundation's Annual Gala is just 48 hours away — this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. More than 550 people from across the commonwealth have responded that they will be in attendance.  In an age where the Angry Left is flouting their strength in Virginia (read this) and across the country — in some cases, taking to the streets to intimidate anyone with a different opinion (see video)— many people are counting out the conservatism, not to mention Christian conservatives and those who believe in traditional values such as life and marriage. Our gala is one refuge from that and an evening of affirmation and reinvigoration of our cause. We hope you will attend.

While we still have some tickets available and it's not too late to reserve yours. Individual tickets are $85 and a couple's ticket is $165. To make a purchase, call 804-343-0010 by Wednesday afternoon.

Your attendance will be worth it. You won't want to miss the inspiring message of former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline. He is one of the rare elected officials who has placed principle over politics, someone who gives you faith that there are those in public office who do not check their principles at the door when entering the halls of power. Don't miss your opportunity to hear this dynamic speaker in person.

In addition, several of the state police chaplains who resigned when ordered not to pray "in Jesus name" will also be with us and will lead the blessing. Like Phill Kline, these chaplains have paid a personal price in not compromising their beliefs (click here for more information on our guests and the gala).

The Family Foundation Annual Gala is a signature event each year on conservative Virginians' calendars. We hope we'll see you this Thursday evening, and join us in getting encouragement and re-energized for the battles that lie ahead. For further information, please click here.

Here's a short video of Phill Kline defining leadership — standing for what you believe, and having faith that those principles will serve you well no matter the political ramifications:

MoveOn.org Already Working To Overturn California Marriage Amendment, Staging Rallies In Virginia Tomorrow

Earlier this week we posted a letter from Planned Parenthood (click here) so you could read for yourself the delightfulness it takes in its extremist positions. Today, we came across a blast e-mail from another notoriously radical, big money, Angry Left organization — MoveOn.org — announcing to its millions of members plans to overturn the hard-fought and legally won Marriage Amendment in California ("Prop 8") and in every state that has passed one, including Virginia (protests are scheduled in seven Virginia cities tomorrow. Click here).

This is what we are up against in the culture war (click here for one way to fight back). By the way, in MoveOn's e-mail, posted below, notice the words "agents of intolerance" and "fear-mongering" to describe values voters, while MoveOn admits it is "angry" and that its supporters "took to the streets" after the Marriage Amendment passed. Boy, did they ever: View, if you haven't, the KPSP television report from Palm Springs, California, where a true mob of leftists and homosexual activitists surrounded and threatened an elderly lady who supported the Marriage Amendment (click here). The MoveOn.org e-mail is printed below verbatim and in its entirety.

E-Mail From Moveon.org To Its Members Regarding Actions To Repeal California's Recently Passed Marriage Amendment

subject line: "Overturn Prop 8"

  Dear MoveOn member,

Along with our tremendous excitement over Barack Obama's victory, a lot of us are sad and angry about a different election result-the passage of California Proposition 8, which reversed marriage equality and wrote discrimination into the California Constitution.

Many people worked hard to defeat this measure-including MoveOn members, who contributed over $300,000 to defeat it. But agents of intolerance used fear-mongering to eke out a win.

After the election, people across California immediately took to the streets, vowing to put the state on the right side of history by overturning Prop 8.

Now folks everywhere are coming together to add their voices. Tomorrow (Saturday) there will be rallies in support of marriage equality in every single state. If you want to attend an event in your state, go to this page and click on your state name — you'll see the location of any rallies planned:

http://www.moveon.org/r?r=51025&id=15118-9623350-OcY3OPx&t=1

These rallies will send a strong signal that depriving people of rights is no longer acceptable in America — and it will also be a first step in ongoing activism across the nation.

There's one other thing you can do to support the fight for marriage equality.

The Courage Campaign (which does MoveOn-style organizing in California) is working with other groups on a two-year grassroots plan to overturn Prop 8 in the 2010 election. The first step is for folks to speak out together with one voice right away by signing a pledge to help overturn Prop 8.

Over 100,000 people have already signed the pledge-and thousands more are signing every day. Even non-Californians are signing the pledge in solidarity. If you'd like to sign, click here:

http://www.moveon.org/r?r=51024&id=15118-9623350-OcY3OPx&t=2

Thanks for all you do.

Prophetic Article? A Must Read To Understand The Future

A Barack Obama presidency has me scared for a long time for a number of reasons. There's the pending economic socialism and the disregard for innocent human life, among many urgent issues. During the campaign the many to whom I expressed my concern would respond with the conventional wisdom that he'll mess it up and the country will swing back to conservatism in the mid-term elections, as in 1994. (That's a big "if," predicated on whether the so-called conservatives in Congress remain scared of their own shadows and remain addicted to "big-government conservatism.")  I would reply to those who responded that way, "Not so fast." Conventional wisdom and the old models don't apply anymore. With such large majorities in Congress and control of the White House, the extreme, Angry Left will ram through several initiatives to permanently seal its institutional advantages. For example, the liberal media, which crossed from only being biased to all out left wing advocacy this campaign, will be cemented by the passing of the so-called Fairness Doctrine, minimizing (if not completely eliminating) conservative talk radio. Advantage, Left Wing Media.

How about the so-called Freedom of Choice Act? Senator Obama said it's the first bill he would sign. It would eliminate all state restrictions on abortion. (No need for state legislatures, then, huh?) Gone would be all parental consent, notification and regulations against partial birth abortion. Advantage, the government grant and profit machine known as Planned Parenthood (see LifeSiteNews.com, here).

The union card check bill, if it becomes law (see The Las Vegas Sun, here), will end the secret ballot in union organizing campaigns. This will create countless new union shops. Aside from the economic peril of making American industry less competitive, this bill will add tens of thousands of new union members to union rolls — along with their compulsary dues, which go to union political action committees and used to elect leftist candidates. Advantage, corrupt Leftist union bosses.

The public education establishment, which largely dumbs down children K-12, and the college education establishment, which largely indoctrinates them because, by then, students have been conditioned to feel rather than think, will get new, large amounts of federal grants to run their politically correct campus societies, further preaching liberal doctrine under the guise of teaching, both in the classroom and in campus regulations such as speech codes. Advantage, Leftist educrats and teachers union leaders.

I could go on. But someone else has for me. Give me one more minute.

When I extolled this theory, some saw credence. Some thought the conventional wisdom would magically re-write history in two years. Many thought I was looking for the man on the grassy knoll. My response was that I would write a thesis on it. End of minute. I don't have to write the thesis. Quin Hillyer, of The American Spectator, has. I don't know whether to celebrate that my theory has been vindicated or mad that I didn't publish it and get compensated for the idea first. Regardless, Hillyer's "Saul Alinsky Takes the White House" (click here) is a must read to understand what Christian conservatives and those who believe in traditional family values and limited constitutional government will face starting January 20, 2009. It is something we need to be prepared for and ready to work against — work very hard against.

Here's an excerpt:

Watch what Michael Barone called the Obama "thugocracy" use the Justice Department to stifle dissent. Anybody who complains about vote fraud will be charged with "vote suppression." Anybody who complains about DoJ's actions will be charged with interfering with an investigation. Anybody who denies having interfered will be charged with perjury. Likewise, anybody who peacefully protests abortion clinics or the use of state-sponsored racial quotas will be charged with a civil rights violation. And the accused won't be able to look to the Supreme Court for help: Anthony Kennedy's "evolving standards" of justice will evolve to match the new zeitgeist, providing a 5-4 majority for the administration. Meanwhile, of course, Obama's other appointments will be filling up the rest of the judiciary at a rapid clip, with nobody able to stop them.

Other ways the Obama axis will tilt the playing field: "card check" legislation to eliminate secret ballots in unionizing and to force union victories in contract negotiations. Provision after provision giving favors to the trial bar so it can sue enemies into submission. Copious new regulations, especially environmental, to be used selectively to ensnare other conservative malcontents. Invasive IRS audits of conservative think tanks, other conservative 501 organizations, and PACs.

What Ohio officials did in rifling through so many of Joe Wurzelbacher's files will serve as ample precedent. (Just watch, by the way: Nobody ever will be effectively disciplined for the violation of Wurzelbacher's rights.)

And, only when the time is right and the ground (or air) has been well prepared, will come the grand-daddy of all fights, the re-enactment of the misnamed "Fairness Doctrine."

It's not just Joe the Plumber. Remember Barbara West, the Florida anchor who dared asked Joe Biden tough questions? Her station was blacklisted. Three newspapers who endorsed John McCain had their political reporters thrown off the Obama press plane (see The Washington Times, here). That's before he was elected! But surely there are bigger fish to fry — perhaps IRS and government intimidation of churches and pastors? By the way, what's with the 250,000 member security force Senator Obama promised? (See Blue Collar Muse, here.)

The coming socialist, one-party state only will be a crazy conspiracy theory if people fully understand what's at stake and decide to get engaged, stay vigilant, remain active and work hard. Work very hard — starting now.

Let Me Get This Straight . . .

The Angry Left and its allies in Left Wing Mainstream Media think it's perfectly okay for an unelected liberal woman (Hillary Clinton) to fire an entire office of civil servants (the White House Travel Office) and falsely accuse some of them with crimes (for which they were acquitted) resulting in hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees, but something's wrong when a conservative woman, the elected governor of a state (Sarah Palin), fires a political appointee, under every conceivable auspice of her power as chief executive, for insubordination on a budget matter. How pathetic.

Angry Left Hate Speech Quote Of The Day Starring Alcee Hastings

It doesn't seem possible, but the the Angry Left gets more hysterical and despicable each day. Not even Michael Phelps or Usain Bolt is this prolific at topping themselves. We can't keep up. (See last Friday's post about the vile from so-called comedienne Sandra Bernhard.) So, today, we start trying to keep pace by beginning an Angry Left Hate Speech Quote Of The Day, not to be confused with our ever popular Capitol Square Diary QOD. Not that we're even going to make this an official category, but with the Mount Everest high amount of material available by the hour, we hold out that option. So, without further ado, our inaugural ALHSQOD quote comes from disgraced impeached and convicted (for perjury and corruption) former federal judge, now-U.S. Representative Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.). (See Fox News article here). Yesterday, in Florida, at a panel discussion hosted by the National Jewish Democrat Council, he said:

If Sarah Palin isn't enough of a reason for you to get over whatever your problem is with Barack Obama, then you damn well had better pay attention. Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don't care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks. So, you just think this through.

As reported by the blog hotair.com, the room erupted in laughter and applause. Classy. However, according to the Fox News report, a fellow member of the Congressional Black Caucus, U.S. Representative Arthur Davis (D-Ala.), rebuked Hastings in a written statement:

I didn't like his comments when I heard them and they don't sound any better reading them in print. ...

(I)t is a great mistake for Democrats to ridicule (Palin's) cultural roots. I don't know how many Americans strip moose, but a lot of the ones I know tote guns and the Democratic Party had better win enough of those gun toters if we are to be successful.

Finally, some commonsense. They can start by reigning in the hate speech by an increasing number of party officials and left wing fringe groups which claim to do their bidding.

Say What About Hate Speech?

Where are all the PC police now that so-called comedian Sandra Bernhard has used more misogynistic language toward Governor Sarah Palin than any neanderthal would dream? (Read about it here. There are sound bytes, too, but they are profanity laced and not linked here.) Of course, it's art — can't temper that. Can't condemn foul mouthed artists who make threats to an elected official. In fact, her outburst is funny in and of itself: Seems that whenever the Angry Left goes nuts, it's always for the sake of art. Nice haven. But God forbid a conservative or Christian point of view get published on a college campus, or a conservative speaker appear to give a presentation. The First Amendment doesn't apply, there, apparently. If you haven't heard yet, Ms. Bernhard warned Gov. Palin not to come to Manhattan or she would be sure to have her "big, black brothers" "rape" her. Classy. Racist, too. And these people are supposedly helping Barack Obama?
