innocent human life

Look Who's Joined The Pro-Life Movement

Thanks to the Internet and the tools of the Digital Age, the Secular Left no longer controls messaging. The era of the 6:30 national network broadcast news and the New York Times and Washington Post framing the national discussion are over — in fact, has been for a while. That means the Secular Left's dishonesty, inconsistency and hypocrisy get exposed daily, and done so in ways more illustrative and vivid as to make the point 1,000 times more powerful than a 1,000 words ever could. It's provided the hall in which the pro-life message could resonate and educate, especially with America's youth, who are increasingly pro-life. Please see this as one shining example that demonstrates the Secular Left's love of trees more than unborn babies. Here, thanks to our friends at LiveAction.org, is another clever and insightful play of how the Secular Left values "the environment" at the expense of innocent human life:

Save who? This image must confuse the heck out of the pro-abortion side.

If there's any doubt about the nature of nature, read how a dog befriended a toddler with Down Syndrome (LiveAction Blog). Maybe the Secular Left is on to something. Maybe the animals are smarter than the humans.

Governor Bob McDonnell's Official Statement On Signing The Ultrasound Bill Into Law

Governor Bob McDonnell issued the following statement today after signing HB462.

The issue of abortion raises passionate feelings among many Virginians, based on one’s own views on life and liberty. While debates in the legislature over the decades may seem to indicate there is no common ground to be found on this issue, I believe that areas of agreement can and do exist. Most agree that a woman’s decision to seek an abortion is difficult, irreversible and life-altering. Nearly everyone agrees that reducing the number of abortions is a laudable goal. I believe that we become a more compassionate society when we enact reasonable legislation to protect innocent human life.

Women have a right to know all the available medical and legal information surrounding the abortion decision before giving legally effective informed consent. Informed consent is already required prior to an abortion being performed in Virginia, based on the longstanding health care concept that complete information about a medical procedure must be given to a patient before she can freely consent to a procedure. As difficult as an abortion decision is, the information provided by ultrasounds, along with other information given by the doctor pursuant to current law and prevailing medical practice, can help the mother make a fully informed decision.

This bill does not legally alter a woman’s ability to make a choice regarding her pregnancy. It does, however, put Virginia in line with 23 other states that have some type of requirement that a woman be offered a view of an ultrasound before an abortion can be performed.

I previously recommended amendments to the legislature to remove any requirement in this bill for a state mandated internal ultrasound procedure, and the General Assembly agreed that amendments were necessary. I do not believe any woman should be required by the state to undergo such an ultrasound, without her consent, as a precondition to another medical procedure. The bill I signed today ensures that will not occur.

As I have for 21 years as a public servant, I consider it important to embrace a culture of life in our Commonwealth, and to protect the life and liberty of all of our citizens. While we sometimes reach different policy conclusions in our great, free nation, let us continue to work together with respect and civility for the common good.

Prophetic Article? A Must Read To Understand The Future

A Barack Obama presidency has me scared for a long time for a number of reasons. There's the pending economic socialism and the disregard for innocent human life, among many urgent issues. During the campaign the many to whom I expressed my concern would respond with the conventional wisdom that he'll mess it up and the country will swing back to conservatism in the mid-term elections, as in 1994. (That's a big "if," predicated on whether the so-called conservatives in Congress remain scared of their own shadows and remain addicted to "big-government conservatism.")  I would reply to those who responded that way, "Not so fast." Conventional wisdom and the old models don't apply anymore. With such large majorities in Congress and control of the White House, the extreme, Angry Left will ram through several initiatives to permanently seal its institutional advantages. For example, the liberal media, which crossed from only being biased to all out left wing advocacy this campaign, will be cemented by the passing of the so-called Fairness Doctrine, minimizing (if not completely eliminating) conservative talk radio. Advantage, Left Wing Media.

How about the so-called Freedom of Choice Act? Senator Obama said it's the first bill he would sign. It would eliminate all state restrictions on abortion. (No need for state legislatures, then, huh?) Gone would be all parental consent, notification and regulations against partial birth abortion. Advantage, the government grant and profit machine known as Planned Parenthood (see LifeSiteNews.com, here).

The union card check bill, if it becomes law (see The Las Vegas Sun, here), will end the secret ballot in union organizing campaigns. This will create countless new union shops. Aside from the economic peril of making American industry less competitive, this bill will add tens of thousands of new union members to union rolls — along with their compulsary dues, which go to union political action committees and used to elect leftist candidates. Advantage, corrupt Leftist union bosses.

The public education establishment, which largely dumbs down children K-12, and the college education establishment, which largely indoctrinates them because, by then, students have been conditioned to feel rather than think, will get new, large amounts of federal grants to run their politically correct campus societies, further preaching liberal doctrine under the guise of teaching, both in the classroom and in campus regulations such as speech codes. Advantage, Leftist educrats and teachers union leaders.

I could go on. But someone else has for me. Give me one more minute.

When I extolled this theory, some saw credence. Some thought the conventional wisdom would magically re-write history in two years. Many thought I was looking for the man on the grassy knoll. My response was that I would write a thesis on it. End of minute. I don't have to write the thesis. Quin Hillyer, of The American Spectator, has. I don't know whether to celebrate that my theory has been vindicated or mad that I didn't publish it and get compensated for the idea first. Regardless, Hillyer's "Saul Alinsky Takes the White House" (click here) is a must read to understand what Christian conservatives and those who believe in traditional family values and limited constitutional government will face starting January 20, 2009. It is something we need to be prepared for and ready to work against — work very hard against.

Here's an excerpt:

Watch what Michael Barone called the Obama "thugocracy" use the Justice Department to stifle dissent. Anybody who complains about vote fraud will be charged with "vote suppression." Anybody who complains about DoJ's actions will be charged with interfering with an investigation. Anybody who denies having interfered will be charged with perjury. Likewise, anybody who peacefully protests abortion clinics or the use of state-sponsored racial quotas will be charged with a civil rights violation. And the accused won't be able to look to the Supreme Court for help: Anthony Kennedy's "evolving standards" of justice will evolve to match the new zeitgeist, providing a 5-4 majority for the administration. Meanwhile, of course, Obama's other appointments will be filling up the rest of the judiciary at a rapid clip, with nobody able to stop them.

Other ways the Obama axis will tilt the playing field: "card check" legislation to eliminate secret ballots in unionizing and to force union victories in contract negotiations. Provision after provision giving favors to the trial bar so it can sue enemies into submission. Copious new regulations, especially environmental, to be used selectively to ensnare other conservative malcontents. Invasive IRS audits of conservative think tanks, other conservative 501 organizations, and PACs.

What Ohio officials did in rifling through so many of Joe Wurzelbacher's files will serve as ample precedent. (Just watch, by the way: Nobody ever will be effectively disciplined for the violation of Wurzelbacher's rights.)

And, only when the time is right and the ground (or air) has been well prepared, will come the grand-daddy of all fights, the re-enactment of the misnamed "Fairness Doctrine."

It's not just Joe the Plumber. Remember Barbara West, the Florida anchor who dared asked Joe Biden tough questions? Her station was blacklisted. Three newspapers who endorsed John McCain had their political reporters thrown off the Obama press plane (see The Washington Times, here). That's before he was elected! But surely there are bigger fish to fry — perhaps IRS and government intimidation of churches and pastors? By the way, what's with the 250,000 member security force Senator Obama promised? (See Blue Collar Muse, here.)

The coming socialist, one-party state only will be a crazy conspiracy theory if people fully understand what's at stake and decide to get engaged, stay vigilant, remain active and work hard. Work very hard — starting now.

"Bishop" Biden Follows "Pope" Pelosi In Attempt To Redefine Church Truth

It keeps getting worse for certain liberal pols, especially liberal Catholics who continue to try to redefine the faith. On the heels of "pope" Pelossi's comments on Meet The Press attempting to redefine when life begins, Democrat vice-presidential nominee Senator Joseph Biden (D-Del.) now wants to destroy human embryos for no reason, also in contradiction to Church teaching. During his own turn on Meet The Press Sunday (see YouTube video here), Senator Biden started off well enough as he distanced himself from Pelossi, saying he knew life started at conception and understood Church teaching. However, he reiterated the typical gross, intentional misleading position that the Church's believes only are for Catholics. (In other words, the "I can't impose my believes on you" theory; or, the "I believe slavery is wrong, but if you want to own a couple, go ahead" defense.) So, when he votes to create new felonies, he's not imposing his views on the rest of us, we suppose; and certainly not when he takes away and spends our money on failed programs that ostensibly are designed to help others. No, lawmakers never impose their morality on us. The fact is, Church teaching is that Catholics have a duty to protect innocent life, not to stand by while it is massacred. (Read the "Biden Gospel" here, by Father Thomas D. Williams, on National Review Online.)

Just as with U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's fallacious remarks, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops quickly condemned Biden's remarks (read the entire statement here). Justin Cardinal Riglai, Archbishop of Philadelphia and chairman of the bishops' Committee on Pro-Life Activities, and Bishop William Lori of the Diocese of Bridgeport, Conn., and chairman of the bishops' Committee on Doctrine, wrote that the Church . . .

does not teach this as matter of faith; it acknowledges it as a matter of objective fact. ... Protection of innocent human life is not an imposition of personal religious conviction but a demand of justice.

Then, a cutting blow to the deception on which the so-called "pro-choice" argument is made. Wrote the bishops:

Which living members of the human species should be seen as having fundamental human rights, such as a right not to be killed?

The Catholic Church's answer is: Everybody . . . we have no business dividing humanity into those who are valuable enough to warrant protection and those who are not.

In other words, there is no compromise, senator, no matter how bad you want to rationalize it to accomodate your extremist friends.

Furthering Senator Biden's blubbering attempt at Church doctrine were his remarks yesterday when he claimed that Governor Sarah Palin's (R-Alaska) pledged support for parents raising children with developmental disabilities or birth defects should drive them to support embryonic stem cell research.

Speaking to voters at an event in Columbus, Missouri, Biden said:

I hear all this talk about how the Republicans are going to work in dealing with parents who have both the joy, because there's joy to it as well, the joy and the difficulty of raising a child who has a developmental disability, who were born with a birth defect. Well guess what folks? If you care about it, why don't you support stem cell research?

Catholic teaching clearly holds that embryonic stem cell research is unethical because it kills the embryo, from which life springs forth. Furthermore, he showed his lack of knowledge on the issue because recent research has proven there are techniques under development that soon will make embryonic stem cell research obsolete, where adult stem cells can be converted to act as embryonic stem cells. Not that it is necessary — while more than several dozen documented medical breakthroughs have been accomplished through adult stem cell research — not one has been accredited to embryonic stem cell research.

The McCain-Palin campaign fired off this response:

Barack Obama's running mate sunk to a new low today launching an offensive debate over who cares more about special needs children. Playing politics with this issue is disturbing and indicative of a desperate campaign.

Wrote Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List:

Today Senator Biden outrageously implied that Americans who refuse to sacrifice innocent human life in the name of unproven, desperate attempts to cure our nation's ills through embryo-destructive research somehow don't really care about children. I am a mother of five children, one with a mental disability. The fact that Joe Biden questioned the compassion of parents like me — Governor Sarah Palin, among them — makes me sputter in disbelief.

Religion is breaking out among liberals at a dizzying and profoundly hierarchical pace: first and foremost is Democrat presidential nominee Barack Obama, the "messiah;" Governor Tim Kaine played "moses" and attempted to moved mountains in Denver; House Speaker Nancy Pelosi fancies herself "pope;" and former DNC Chairman Don Fowler prayed for a hurricane to hit New Orleans for political gain. What, then, could Senator Biden's fallacious and egregious pronouncements make him other than the "bishop"? He preaches at no cathedral we'd want to attend.
