Applause LineMar 06, 2008
Americans For Prosperity is a free-market, small-government, low-tax grassroots organization. Today was its Virginia chapter's lobby day at the capitol. It's a good group. But even fellow conservatives can surprise you at times. Often these conservative economic groups are pretty secular and the social order isn't always a priority, even if they agree on certain social issues. But today, with a plethora of speakers in the beautifully restored Jefferson Room in the south end of the capitol, including Delegates Ben Cline (R-24, Amherst), Brenda Pogge (R-96, James City) and Jeff Frederick (R-52, Woodbridge); Senators Ralph Smith (R-22, Roanoke) and Ken Cuccinelli (R-37, Fairfax); and Attorney General Bob McDonnell.
But the loudest applause from the standing room only crowd came from Lt. Governor Bill Bolling when he said, "I was proud to cast the tie-breaking vote in favor of Senator Ken Cuccinelli's amendment to strip Planned Parenthood funding out of the budget."
Thus, our Quote Of The Day.
Who said social issues don't matter?
