From the AP via Forbes.com, Virginia's New Year's Eve lottery raffle was a flop (see here). It was funny hearing the Lottery Department spinsters on television and radio say that was actually good, because it increased the odds of winning for those who did buy tickets. Meanwhile, from the same sources, comes this news (click here):

"Overall liquor sales (in Virginia) from July through November were up 6.5 percent from the same period a year ago, but the bulk of that increase came from sales to individual customers at ABC stores. Those sales rose 8.1 percent, while sales to bars and restaurants increased only 0.6 percent."

We make no comment on whether the latter is an equal and opposite reaction to the former.
