Will You Help Save A Child? (Part 1)Jul 18, 2013
Christian pastor and author David Platt once said:
Orphans are easier to ignore before you know their names. They are easier to ignore before you see their faces. It is easier to pretend they're not real before you hold them in your arms. But once you do, everything changes. ...
In Virginia, there are thousands of children in our foster care system that need permanent, loving homes with both a mom and a dad. Because of these needs, Governor Bob McDonnell created the "Virginia Adopts: Campaign for 1,000" initiative to match more than 1,000 children in foster care with 1,000 adoptive families. The kick-off event in May at the Executive Mansion, where 200-plus people attended, coincided with Foster Care Month in Virginia (see proclamation).
Governor McDonnell said:
Our goal now here in Virginia in 2013 is to find 1,000 adoptive families to match with these over 1,000 children. If you've ever considered becoming a foster parent or adopting, or just want to learn more about our Campaign for 1,000, please visit www.VirginiaAdopts.Virginia.Gov. Together, we we can make a real difference for these 1,000 children and Virginia will be a better place. (See this video for full remarks and campaign launch.)
If you have ever thought about adoption or being a foster parent, don't wait any longer. Please consider taking part in this initiative. If you are a pastor or ministry leader, please encourage families in your church to become foster care or adoptive parents.
Those who support life often are accused, through unfounded assertions, of caring only about the baby before birth, and not afterward. We know, of course, that such an assertion is a lie. Thousands of families and churches have committed to adoption and foster care, and help care for children all over America and, indeed, the world. If you have yet to take that step, we encourage you today to prayerfully consider doing so. Every child deserves the security and love that a mother, father and family provides. We all need ongoing family love and support. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of 1,000 children around the commonwealth . . . and eventually, many more.
