BREAKING: SCOTUS Protects Religious Freedom!Jun 30, 2014
STATEMENT BY VICTORIA COBB, PRESIDENT OF THE FAMILY FOUNDATION OF VIRGINIA, CONCERNING SCOTUS CONTRACEPTION MANDATE DECISION
All Americans, including family business owners, must be free to live and work according to their beliefs without fear of government punishment. Today' decision is about protecting deeply held religious beliefs. The Supreme Court simply upheld that Americans don’t surrender their freedom when they open a family business.
Fundamentally, this decision is not about abortion or contraception: It’s about whether government can require faith-based businesses to violate deeply held beliefs. Pregnancy is not a disease, and free access to abortion drugs is not health care. Contraception is readily accessible and always will be, and it’s important to note that Hobby Lobby pays for 16 out of 20 forms of contraception for its employees. This decision is really about who is going to pay for contraception and whether the government can force someone to fund something that violates their faith.
