Contact Your State Legislators

Citizens rarely practice the opportunity to influence public policy by simply contacting their elected officials. Your representatives need to hear from you on the issues important to your family. Remember, it may be your letter than makes the difference!

Guidelines:
1. Be sure that your letter is brief and to the point. Legislators and their staff do not have a lot of time to read through lengthy letters.
2. Be polite. Use facts and reason, not emotion.
3. When possible, refer to personal experience.
4. Mention that you live in the legislator’s district! It is important that they know you are one of their voters.
5. Thank them for their time.
