Virginia is Leading the Nation

Unfortunately, Virginia is leading the nation in the wrong direction according to new data just released by the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute that shows Virginia had the largest increase in abortions of any state in 2024.

In just one year, abortions rose from 33,390 to 38,920 - a 5,530 increase. That’s not just a statistic, it’s a tragedy. Thousands more innocent lives lost—each one a human being, fearfully and wonderfully made, whose life was cut short before it began.

And it’s not just Virginians. As neighboring Southern states tighten restrictions on abortion, Virginia has become the abortion capital of the South, absorbing patients from Tennessee, Kentucky, all the way down to Florida. After Florida’s six-week abortion ban went into effect last May, its numbers dropped dramatically, but that drop didn’t mean fewer abortions overall. It meant Virginia picked up the slack.

Of the total number abortions the number of abortions performed on women traveling from out-of-state rose from 4,950 in 2023 to 9,260 in 2024. In fact, during the second half of 2024, nearly 1 in 3 abortions performed in Virginia were on out-of-state residents, many of them from Florida.

This isn't accidental, it's the result of a deliberate political strategy. Abortion providers knew this was coming. They expanded operations, hired additional staff, and prepared to turn Virginia into the South’s abortion sanctuary. And with Democrats in control of the General Assembly, the door has been flung wide open for that radical vision to become reality.

But the abortion lobby isn’t satisfied with merely making Virginia a regional hub for ending preborn life. Now they want to make it permanent. The radical abortion Amendment, being pushed through by progressive legislators and Planned Parenthood, would enshrine a right to unlimited abortion in our state constitution, eliminating every guardrail, every protection, every moral boundary.

This amendment would override future life-saving legislation, nullify existing health and safety standards, allow virtually anyone to perform an abortion, and block even the most basic protections, like parental consent laws and late-term abortion limits. It’s extreme. It’s reckless. And it’s not who we are.

Virginia is already leading the nation in the increase of abortions. Do we really want to lead the nation in enshrining that most radical abortion amendment to a constitutional?

We must say enough is enough.

Let’s stand for life. Let’s fight this amendment. And let’s work to make Virginia a place where families thrive and every child—born and unborn—is protected.
