LGBTQ+ Agenda Losing Ground?
Proverbs 13:10 “By pride comes nothing but strife, But with the well-advised is wisdom.” (NKJV)
It is “Pride Month” and the City of Richmond is seeking to protect it’s reputation as an LGBTQ friendly city! Already, Richmond's Police Department is requiring new recruits to complete LGBTQ-related training and features a police vehicle displaying a Pride decal, while City Hall continues its annual Pride flag-raising ceremony.
While supporters view these efforts as promoting inclusion and acceptance, a growing debate concerns whether this level of recognition reflects the priorities of Virginians and Americans more broadly.
Recent polling suggests that many Americans are increasingly focused on economic concerns such as inflation, affordability, healthcare costs, housing, and public safety. Voters across the political spectrum continue to express frustration with political leaders and often believe that the government is spending too much time on issues that rank lower on their list of priorities.
Polling also indicates that public opinion on several LGBTQ-related policies has declined in recent years, particularly regarding transgender issues.
66% of Americans support requiring transgender athletes to compete according to their biological sex.
56% support restricting medical transition procedures for minors.
In 2019, 71% of Americans supported allowing openly transgender individuals to serve in the military. By 2025, support had fallen to 58%.
The percentage of Americans who believe the country needs to do more to advance gay rights declined from 50% in 2020 to 39% in 2025.
Since 2022, support for the following restrictions has increased among the general public, regardless of political party affiliation:
More Americans now support requiring individuals to use bathrooms corresponding with their biological sex.
There is growing support for making it illegal for public school districts to teach about gender identity in elementary schools.
Taken together, these findings suggest growing skepticism toward some LGBTQ-related policies, particularly those involving gender identity, athletics, education, and medical treatment for minors.
This does not mean Americans oppose treating LGBTQ individuals with dignity and respect. However, many appear to be drawing a distinction between being respectful and actually promoting the LGBTQ agenda through public institutions.
Key Takeaways
